Vol. 06 May 12, 2009 KEVIN FENWICK REAPPOINTED AS OMBUDSMAN Yesterday, Saskatchewan's Legislative Assembly passed a motion to reappoint Kevin Fenwick as the province's Ombudsman. The decision means that Fenwick will continue as Ombudsman for a second five-year term, ending in the fall of 2014. Fenwick says he has enjoyed his first term and is looking forward to the second. "I have appreciated the opportunity to work with the public and the government that serves them. Our office is here to ensure that those services are provided fairly, and to alert government when they are not. I believe in taking a proactive role in this process, so we focus, not only on fixing what is past, but on making things better for the next person." Some of these proactive steps include:

Australian Speaker to Visit Regina this Fall Chris Wheeler, Deputy Ombudsman from New South Wales, Australia, will offer a one-day session on dealing with difficult complainants. This is one of four stops in a tour planned by the Federation of Canadian Ombudsman. Government fair practice officers, and other government employees who take complaints may find this seminar of interest. It is tentatively booked for October 23 and more information, including costs and location will be available soon.
"FINE ART OF FAIRNESS" WORKSHOPS Open Sessions for Government to be Offered This Fall We are planning to offer "Fine Art of Fairness" workshops in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Regina this fall. These are full two-day sessions and are open to employees and officials across government, including ministries, agencies and Crown Corporations.
